Makeup Tips and Tricks from an around the way Brown Girl

Carol’s Daughter

We have all heard of Carol’s Daughter. We all know that my Boo (well actually, Beyonce’s Boo), Will and Jada are all partners. So, it was genius of them to put Jada’s hair regimine up on the site. It’s great to know what she uses when a celebrity hairstylist isn’t using his or her products, or when she’s at home in Baltimore *standing up and cheering, representing for my hometown!!!!!* at Ree-Ree’s Bump ‘N Curl. Heh. And for the umpteenth time, that’s not a weave! Jada’s living proof that our hair can grow long and bountiful!

I am super hyped that I’ll be able to experience the flagship store at 24 West 125th Street in Harlem, NY. I want to play with EVERYTHING. Please, God, let our people be nice and show me excellent customer service. I WILL rant if I am disspleased! : )

Knowing me, I’ll probably end up purchasing The Saturday Morning Special Hair Care Set. I love this concept! Here’s the site’s description. ” Good Morning! It’s Saturday and time to do your hair – tote these essential hair care supplies to your salon! The unique blend found in the Tui Herbal Shampoo and Leave-In Conditioner is one infused of chamomile and marigold that softens and rejuvenates your hair while leaving the sweet fragrance of guava, mango and passion fruit! Along with the Hair Milk and Healthy Hair Butter your hair will be enriched with oils such as lavender, ylang-ylang, Shea butter, and lemongrass to nourish, hydrate and condition. And don’t forget to apply the “stay put” Kizzi pomade to keep that style!”

Contents:
Tui Herbal Shampoo, 4 oz.
Tui Leave-In Conditioner, 4 oz.
Hair Milk, 4 oz.
Kizzi “Stay Put” Hair Pomade, 3 oz.
Healthy Hair Butter, 4 oz.
Tui Hair Oil, 2 oz.

I’m intrigued by SweetHoneyDipChocolateBrownSugah.
Carol’s Daughter says “I know, it’s a mouthful. But when you smell this, you’ll know why it took all of that to describe it! A thick, rich body butter formula made with ingredients like sweet almond oil, cocoa and shea butters, Sweethoneydip…. is the most fragrant, delicious concoction imaginable!” Sounds like a winner to me.

Until next time, Stay Scandalous!

A few tutorials…

Way, way back in the day, I made a few tutorials. They weren’t meant to really be professional looking, just wanted to give people a few new tips or tricks. Don’t judge me, these are OLD. Like moldy old.

So here are Basic Foundation, Smokey Eye, and a few other tutorials for you.

Enjoy? (Yes, I meant to put a question mark there.)

Resurrect Your Favorite Cosmetics!

Hey Lovelies!

I hope that you all have a cookout to attend today. Shoot, I don’t! I know that you have all heard of the company who can custom make your favorite discontinued beauty products…but do you know who they are???

Three Custom Color is a genius line. Not only do they custom make lipstick, gloss, blush, powder, etc., they also have their own collection of cosmetics that they offer

I love the concealer palette that they offer. This is a must have for all Makeup Artists! Lots of Makeup Artists use concealer palettes as their foundations because they are easy to transport and offer tons of color in a tiny space. Definitely look into this.

They even have a special collection for Tia William’s of Shake Your Beauty! I hope you all read The Accidental Diva, it’s one of my favorite books!!! When I was at the bookstore and it said that the main character (Billie) was a Beauty Editor, I ran to the checkout!(I read it in 2 hours!) To tell you the truth, I am re-reading the book during my trip to NYC this weekend! Thanks Tia, your book inspiried me to go for my dreams!!! Ok, enough of my life story, check out the “Billie Burke” Lipgloss!

The CEW Beauty Award Winners!

Cosmetic Executive Women

It’s only fitting that I wrote about this fabulous event. Let’s start with an introduction first. The CEW is a non-profit organization that holds members from virtually every area in the beauty industry. What excites me more than ever is that I will be interning with them this summer! You’ll never understand how elated I am about this!

To make a long story short, hundreds and hundreds of products are submitted for the awards, but only 36 can be winners. Categories are split into five major categories, and price. And this isn’t just a readers’ pick kind of award. The beauty professionals are the ones who do the choosing! I’m sure they know what they are talking about!!!

Winners included Olay, Dove, Tarte, Chanel, Covergirl, MAC and many more. To view the complete list of the best in beauty, click here!

MAC Summer Collections

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Since MAC has unanimously been voted the brand for sistahs, I had to let you all know what was coming out in early Summer. In fact, here are a few missconceptions about the line.

1 M.A.C. stands for Makeup Art Cosmetics.

2. The line is NOT intentionally made for African Americans. Actually, the line was created by two white men named Frank and Frank! The line just happenes to be very brown girl friendly! All Ages. All Sexes. All Races.

3. Oh Baby and Chestnut are not the be-all and end-all of lip combinations. *winks*

4. M.A.C. is Crack. Oh wait, that’s true!

The Tendertones Collection is an array of tinted lip balms. This gives you a bit of unpronounced color, very sheer and easy to wear. Put your Carmex away and try something new and fun! Also, I am a sucker for the previously launched Lip Conditioner with SPF 15. What’s the difference you ask? Lip Balms sit on the surface of the lip for immediate “hydrating” relief. The Lip Conditioner, however, penetrates below the surface to really hydrate and condition the lip! The entire collection of MAC Lip Conditioners are here. This collection will be available May 31st.

Next up is Moonbathe, available June 11th. Very, very brown girl friendly! It’s very bronzy and warm. I’d suggest picking a few of these pieces and incorporating them into your summer beauty rotation.

The Sexy Lash Edition

Yep, I refer to Billy B. alot! He is such a great source for all of my beauty topics du jour! One thing I love to find and add to my collection is eye lashes. Wearing lashes can take a look to new heights. And almost no two lashes are alike, they are of different lenghts, colors, styles, etc. I own about 30 pairs of lashes as we speak! I’ll be real, I suck at putting my lashes on. But, it takes practice!!! By the 2nd or 3rd attempt, they are on good and tight. (Oh, by the way, Bey is wearing falsies on the top and bottom lashes!)

I found some uber fabulous lashes from Shu Uemura at their booth at The Makeup Show.
Shu Lashes are some of the best quality out there. Not only are the lashes super durable, they are very unique.

Very unique. And $50.

Makeup Forever has a superb collection of lashes. On the Sephora site, there are just a few to see, but check out the lash page on the MUFE site to see all the lashes they have to offer. They have over 50 pair!!!

And here’s my favorite pair, the 7 lashes by MAC.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Here’s a picture of me wearing them! These are the lashes that I wear when I want to go the extra step without really wanting to be noticed. They are just little whisps at the end of my lashes.

And when I want some more action than that, and I really want to show off my almond shaped eyes, I go with the number 2 lashes. These are longer all over with thinner strands, and larger whisps.

I’m answering all the rest of your lash questions tomorrow, and showing you a few more styles. So go on out, get a pair, PRACTICE, and Stay Scandalous!

Oh Shoot! Miss J.’s in the House!

Karu at AOL Black Voices had a sit down with J. Alexander of America’s Next Top Model. I swear, without Miss Jay, this show wouldn’t be nearly as comical. And J is one model who can walk. Beyonce clearly didn’t need to shout out Naomi Campbell in the extended version of “Get Me Bodied”. *singin* Do the Miss J Walk! The Miss Jay Walk!

Take a look at what the Diva…ummm….Divo had to say.

The Relaxed Days…

Sometimes, I miss being relaxed. Rarely actually. I’m not one of those natural girls that preaches her nappturality or is spiritually attached to it. My hair was just weak and brittle during my bone-straight days, so I tried a different approach. Even with my natural hair, I’ll probably wear it blown out and flat-ironed. My hair began to flourish as I learned some tricks of my girls at the LHCF. I tried a few, and these are what helped bring my hair back to life! Here’s some new info and a compilation of previous posts.

Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo was my favorite hair cleanser. It seemed to wash my hair without stripping it, which I loved. I always felt like my hair was genuinely clean when using it, which I did once or twice a week.

Mmmmm. Mizani Moisturfuse Conditioner. I forgot how much I adore this stuff. I’m in love with My Keracare Humecto, and I adore this stuff as well. This is by far the creamiest conditioner that I have ever come in contact with. Just the feel of it on your hands reminds me of an uber expensive body cream. The second that it touches your hair, your can feel how moisturized your tresses instantly become. Yep, its a bit expensive. But it’s soooo well worth it. If you have any signs of dry hair, this is the first conditioner that I would recommend.

Now, If you want to put out a few more dollars, this Keracare Essential Oils for the Hair is the TRUTH. The moment you see and smell this stuff, you know that it is salon quality. The shine is unbelievable, and I can almost bet that no matter how damaged your hair might be, this will make it look like a million bucks. You will find nothing but sunflower seed, peanut, castor, coconut, jojoba, sesame, aloe vera, almond, and olive oil goodness in this bottle. This does contain to things that I have never heard of, propylparaben and BHA, as well as perfume. But, I don’t care! I use this stuff sparingly, because it is expensive. I still use my Surge Lotion Motion #9 when I’m feeling cheap. I highly recommend you order online at Irby’s.
They have outstanding prices! $9.99 for 4oz and $15.99 for 8 oz.

I also loved deep-conditioning my hair. Often times, I always used olive oil. This tried and true beauty trick is a winner! I’d drench my hair in oil, put on a shower cap, and handle my business. After a half-hour minimum, my hair was penetrated with moisture. Any brand will do, just go to the supermarket and pick up a bottle! Or, go ahead and mix some with your favorite conditioner for a custom made treatment.

I didn’t have relaxed hair when this came out, but I know both naturals and relaxed sistas that use it and have miraculous results!

Whoever says that your hair can’t grow fast is very wrong. I am so thrilled to have found Boundless Tressed Growth Serum!!! I bought this after reading tons of threads on my favorite discussion board, Long Hair Care Forum. I noticed a frantic thread titled “Naturallady…I need odorless MTG!!!!” For those of you that don’t know, MTG is an oil that helps your hair grow. It was origionally made for people, but marketed for horses. Let’s not forget it smells like bacon. Hmmm. Anyway, this odorless MTG reportedly made your hair grow quick, and didn’t have a smell! I had to buy it. It only took me a week and a half to see noticable results. That is insane! I have a full hairline again!!! I am soooooo happy! My hair is softer and less coarse! The best part…a bottle is only $12!!!! So if you want long, flowing, thick, healthy hair, check this out!!!

Make your hair grow NOW…Check out Boundless Tresses Here!!!

I really, really wanted to try this. Our friends at Phyto created the Phytospecific Phytorelaxer. It’s about time that someone realized they could make oodles of money for creating this! The site says “Phytospecific Phytorelaxer Index 2 is a gentle formula for straightening and smoothing normal, thick, and coarse hair. Egg and soy complex gently straighten even resistant hair and is very mild on the scalp. Does not contain Lye.” Phytorelaxer=WAY less damage. There is also the Index 1 relaxer for fine/delicate hair. I believe I read that Oprah uses this on her hair, don’t quote me though.

Until next time, Stay Scandalous!

The "Kelly Rowland" Collection

Kelly Rowland is my muse. When I had that short, choppy style, people said I looked like her. (What were they thinking??) As her hair “grew”, I grew disappointed. I loved the fact that she was daring enough to stand out and have shorter hair! But then, she emerged for the “Destiny Fulfilled” album with a jet-black coif that was bad on her. I loved it. Beyonce who?? I see a trend in Kelly’s beauty regimine: head-turning eyeliner, blush and gloss.

To get the gorgeous Kelly look, try these products.

Kelly might not be wearing shadow, but she always has smoldering eyes. MAC Smolder Eye Kohl is the darkest, blackest, sexiest eye pencil out there. Line your upper and lower lashline, as well as your waterline. Don’t be afraid to make it dark by going back and forth over the line. Next, take a black matte eyeshadow, like Scott Barnes Illumineye in Night and smudge the line. There you have it: an instant, sexy, smoky eye.

Kelly is definitely a blush chick too. She is always in ruby shades or orangy browns.

For the dewy cheek, try
Tarte’s Cheek Stain in Blushing Bride. The stain almost seems like a colorful gel mold or something. I don’t know how to explain it, but I know that I love it. I know that Kelly would look too cute in Nars Taos and Crazed Blush. These colors are in the pink/cranberry family, and effortlessly brighten our cheeks. Don’t be afraid, these colors are Brown Girl friendly!
In the picture above, her cheek color reminds me of Nars Exhibit A blush, or Becca Creme Blush in Dahlia.

As far as lips go, there are tons of ways you can take this. Stila makes awesome glosses, three great neutral colors are Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar, Vanilla and Apricot. Also, take a gander at Becca’s Glossy Lip Tint in Bellini, Flirtini and Daiquiri for pouty pink lips!

Sylvia at I Like Her Style has some fabulous pictures of Ms. Kelly. Gotta check them out! Also, peep The evolution of Kelly Rowland at Glam.com! Kelly’s another prime example of a Scandalous Beauty!
